ICOM Special Project

 

 

This general project is going to be implemented in the region of South East Europe in cooperation with ICOM ICR and ICOM SEE in developing the subtheme:

Migration:Cities is an ICOM Special Project led by the International Committee for the Collections and Activities of Museums of Cities (CAMOC), ICR (ICOM International Committee for Regional Museums) and CAM (Commonwealth Association of Museums, an ICOM affiliated organisation). Begun in 2016, the three-year project is creating a web platform for city, migration and other museums and museum professionals to share information and meaningful ways to engage with the realities of what Doug Saunders has termed ‘Arrival Cities’. The platform will become a resource and a hub to discuss the preservation and representation of contemporary urban life in museums, offer different insights, research tools, and museums’ and migrants’ experiences. It will also facilitate exchange and mentoring opportunities between professionals, acting as a think-tank and contact zone.

Regional museums in South East Europe are kindly invited to join the special ICOM project in order to interpret new narratives and propose themes for social debate based on their knowledge of historic urban or regional processes, stories of diverse urban groups and their various themes of interest tackling the dynamic processes of migration.

 

Regional Museums on the Balkan Route of Migrations

As a sub-project of the Migration:Cities | (im)migration and arrival cities, and is going to be implemented in the Region of South East Europe in cooperation with ICOM ICR and ICOM SEE in developing the sub theme:

Museums in South East Europe can help in developing intercultural dialogue regarding the current hot topics like migration.
