In order to encourage various events as part of the work programme of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, conference participants coming from various EU countries and accessioning countries have discussed multiple ways how to use this year to address relevant issues.

The present EU officials described instruments which will be used for the Year and announced that a special budget was allocated for projects. They will be launched under existing EU programmes like Creative Europe, Horizon 2020, Erasmus + and othes.  

Goranka Horjan, ICOM SEE President, was also one of the panelists and in her address she pointed out how museums and other cultural heritage institutions should use the opportunity to lobby for greater support. In particular heritage institutions should work together to remove the limit of 5 million euro investment in monuments which has been a huge burden to cultural heritage owners in the period 2014 – 2020.
